This is my gf's nano tank in her office desk. Current no CO2. Just the hang on filter, 9W of lighting and a mini ac fan running. Tank is about 3-4 months old. 20 pcs of cherry shrimp.

Just curious. What filter medium do you have inside your hangon fliter ? Any bio rings or carbon ..etc ?

Are those submerged top part xmass moss? I was told that xmass moss needs CO2, seems that it is not the case.

I have a slightly larger tank at 23 gallon. But seem like the driftwood i have inside is causing the water PH to be as low as 6 and my shrimps are not doing well. I see that you also have a driftwood inside your NANO tank. Did u happen to measure your PH before ?

I think PH6 is fine for some shrimps. But it is better to rise a little. Did the PH drop quickly? If so shrimps might suffer or die from PH shock. Best change of PH in a day is about only 0.5, more than that change per day might kill organisms.

Fruitpie,
The tank was running with DIY CO2 for the first 2 months. After that, my gf lazy to make the co2 again....and just let it be.
Walter,
Actually i knew her through this hobby. She was looking for Siamese Algae Eater. End up she found me instead of SAE. :joking:
Spinex,
The PH was around 6。6 with CO2. But now, I am not sure about. Since the shrimp doing well and carrying eggs. I think the water parameter is stable now. (The shrimp was introduce only after 2 months. There are few died for the first time. After that, they are doing well.)

Hi nano, good to see you here. The DIY CO2 just like the normal. Was using Chopstick as the diffusor which placed under the inlet of the filter. :D

Hey dom! :D yes, it's me! actually i don't understand what chopstick la ... diffusor ... can describe a bit more?
remember about the oil on surface thing, similarly, on your gf's tank ... will the plant release the protein extract as well ... and how do you get rid of it ? actually up to now i still cannot figure it out. and don't think of getting those skimmers.
thanks in advance, friend!

Nano,
I posted the pic about the DIY CO2 diffusor in other forum. Currently, i lost the URL and the pic. Try to search for DIY CO2 diffusor.
Yes. There is a layer of protein surface. My gf hv to use the cup to remove the oily surface daily. Otherwise, lower down the water level. The water flow from the hand on filter will get rid of it too.
I am just able to get one of the Hong Kong/Taiwan fella using cigratte filter as diffusor. The source is www.augrass.com
