Where did you get the mini spider crabs? Are they available in HK? Seems they are quite fragile.

Those are also called Thai Micro crabs and can be gotten in the US from a few sources, but run a pretty penny around $10 to $20 a crab depending on supply.

The Thai mini crabs are tough little things. They also have a nice grip and hard to pull of plants and stuff. The crabs are hard like rocks!

one of my friends tried to get some from Thailand through a transhipper. They arrived okay, but a few days in, he got crab soup; nothing but legs and bodies everywhere. So I'm not sure how hardy these guys are. Seems rather fragile to me.

I keep mine in a PH of 7.2 and water temp 25c, and they seem to be doing nice, but I haven't seen any eggs, plus these little guys like to dig under the substrate and hide.

Gabe San, You are talking to which one? Geo.K or Mirco crab?

For the Orange Vampire Crab. I will recommend to keep in a semi-aquatic tank. Try to mimic their nature life enviroment. They don't like to stay in the water all the time. they like to sitting near to the water surface. and will stay there for whole day once they find their own good spot. They can keep numbers in one tank...It is more fun to watching them communicate to each other. they are more less aggressive than crayfish. That is what my exp. from these months. I also got another unknown species of this kind Geo.sp
It is also orange in color. but their eggs are a bit smaller than the orange Vampire Crab. They just got eggs. not daring to catch them to have photo. don;t know what will happen.

For this Vampire Crab. when it got berry last few weeks. I try to flip it over and shoot some photos.. SHe kick off loads of eggs. Lucky that she still carry severl eggs in her belly.. Not dare to disturb her any more...
I guess this species will like the crayfish will hatch in a mini form of crab instead of a larva form like the crab from the sea.

Here is one of the egg that she kicked out!!!:embarasse

Yes, like you said.. Also like their name.. spider crab.. they act like a spider. they will hide in a piece of leaf which they will roll the leaf (Maybe they choose the leaf which shape is a bit curve )and hide themselves.

Yes,, they "look" quite fragile.. but in truth not really!!!!

Not I got one female carrying eggs....it seems a larva form of eggs....don't know whether they need to hatch in b.water or sea water....

Please let us know how the spider crab eggs hatch. I am wondering if they go through a larval stage or hatch into little crabs. Keep us informed!

can you setup a tank with just rocks and water....

and i can put a interial filter so i can filter the water...

I also keep vampire and orange crabs, they are so cute and colorful. You can pick them up and play like pets and they crawl around your hand, their claws are so small they can't pin you.

Hi,
in my experience these Geosesarma species like to hide a lot to feel safe. The adults seem to prefer a rather dry spot while the juveniles stay much more in the water. My adult Vampire crabs and orange crabs liked to keep just their "feet" wet and stayed out of the water. They even dug a kind of cave into the ground of the land part to hide all day long. Only for molting or catching some food they came into the water part of the aquaterrarium.

fyi, if you havn't figured it out this year already, vamp crabs don't need brackish water or salt to breed, they are a TRUE freshwater crab, but, they are also a land crab and love land...so you can breed them in just shallow freshwater, and probably raise fallen ones in a tumbler...perhaps, that is just speculation.

I'm hoping to get some of the purple variety soon. soo cool.
