Hi,
I saw this in a shop, it is labelled as Purple Zebra Shrimp. Anyone has keep or breed this species of shrimp before? Any other information on this shrimp?
http://www.shrimpnow.com/mygallery/files/2/purple_zebra_shrimp2.jpg
Any idea of its scientific name?
It is also known as purple crystal shrimp.

They had this shrimp at my LFS recently. Unfortunately, one of the bonehead employees had put a catfish in one of the tanks that they keep shrimp in and they unknowingly got put in that tank. Needless to say they didn't have any to sell the next day. :(

The catfish was already in the tank, it was missed as it is also filled with plants. There were a few of the shrimp left but we could not convince them to sell to us. Knowing this lfs they died within a few days anyway. You would think they would want to recoup some of the loss to the catfish belly.

lfs in Kuala Lumpur named it as Dream shrimp. Selling price is around RM8 = S$3.5 each.
I was bought around 10 pieces. Put them into the shrimp tank... and all disappeared. Never see them again. I believe all went to heaven.

What size are the eggs? As big as fire red for example, or more like Yamato shrimps? Usually you can tell whether they have fully developed offspring or larvae by the egg size.
By the way, I would like to get some. Anyone interested in trading them against white pearl shrimp, or maybe some crays?

Has anyone bred these yet? They finally got more into my LFS and I got 10 of them. They are still small and I am wondering how big they get and if they will give birth to baby forms of themselves or do they have a larval state?

Purple Zebra is another pretty shrimp. I do breed them, It carry yellowish eggs like cherry shrimp. it birth direct shrimplets..
This is a very shy shrimp, only find foods in the darkness. I mixed with Crs end up the whole batch dead slowly of hunger.. pc by pc.

I was told by a friend of mine that purple zebra don't give birth to shrimplet....???? He had a tank full of purple zebra, but till now, he still can't breed any single baby purple zebra...??? Do they need brackish water to breed? Now i am confused !!!! Which is which??? Any other person here can confirm purple zebra give birth to shrimplets?? Another thing, how you know those purple zebra die of hunger??? Can't they die of some other causes like water perimeter, temperature, poor shrimpkeeping etc??? I have kept many type of shrimps, till today i still can't find any causes why some of my shrimp die. Pardon me for my frankness, i am just trying to find more information about how to keep alive these beautiful shrimps!!!

Unfortunately I checked last night and I only have one shrimp left. I do not seem to have good luck with the imported shrimp at my local shop. I always have much more success with hobbyist bred shrimp.

I also don't have much luck with this shrimp. Guess we don't really know the water and temperature requirement of this delicate shrimp. I keep them in temperature at 25 deg and PH 7.2. What about you Aaron?

I keep my tanks at whatever the room temperature is. I need to get a space heater for the winter. It's probably 70 degrees F and pH is about 6.8.

Sorry, correct me if I'm wrong as I'm no expert... :p
But, think I read somewhere that it needs slightly higher ph to survive... & As your CRS is kept in the lower ph level... the two shrimp can't be kept together...

I had 10 purples in an established tank with cherries and a few different tiny fish species. After a week 2 were left and it's been a month now so far they are still alive. Seems my green Indian shrimp can't survive either while the cherries, tigers and amano shrimp all have no problems. I suspect it could be temperature rather than chemistry. Crs/bees can't seem to survive more than 2 weeks in the tank either. The only other explaination could be that all the ones that died are wild-caught rather than bred in a tank.

These shrimp are the so shy as stated earlier. They do not come out unless it is dark. Kinda sad since they are so pretty. One almost forgets they are there since you never see them.
