Plagiomnium sp? Currently both of the mosses growing well inside my nano. I can see the small stalk and new leaves growing. The nano tank is without any CO2. 5 hours photoperiod and top in the water daily. 30%Water change weekly. My Cherry shrimps seem like keep pulling out these mosses from the holes of the wood.

Hi Dom,
Thank for sharing, I wish I can lay my hands on the wild mosses or fressiden.
How did you get the fressiden grow on the rock? or that is what you found? I found a type of fressiden look-like plant but it does not want to stick to driftwood.

Hi Fruitpie,
I found this fissiden growing on the rock originally. It is hard to scratch it off from the rock. So, I just took the small piece back. There are many rocks with it over there. If you happen to come over, i can show you around in the FRIM.
Heard it growing quite slow and need cold water to grow in submersed. Hopefully, my shrimp tank 26C able to grow them well.

Nice looking mosses dom.. The rock one looks really neat.. :D
Btw fruitpie, maybe you can try tying the moss to the driftwood with a fishing line or some thread, it should cling on.. Or you are already using this method haha.. Then I have no other ideas..

Dom,
What's the temperature of the water where the fressiden is collected? How far away is FRIM from KL ?
This is the fressiden I found in garden plot, just trying my luck to try if it grow submerged.

Hi Fruitpie, the fissiden I found growing emersed. The rock bathed in the seeping stream/ground water. The water is kinda cold. Unfortunately i didn't bring any equipment to find out.
FRIM located in Kepong. I can say it is kinda far if you are going from the Pudu Bus Station. If you thinking of going there and collect. You gonna try your luck. Because of the Park Rangers or security guards up and down the hill in different area most of the time. Once you got caught. You gonna pay... :D
I had a deal with the professor there and carrying the black n white all the time. What I collected, I must share with the herbarium lab in FRIM.
Btw Fruitpie, do you mind to take a closer pic of the fissiden you found?

Hi Fruitpie,
That is a nice fissiden. It look a bit like the Plagiomnium sp. But I did saw this type of fissiden somewhere in the forum. Heard it is not native from SG. But they still investigating it.
My fissiden just a week inside my tank. Temp is 26C. No fertilizer and CO2. I can see the new grown leaves growing in light green and growing longer.

Hi Dom,
The above frissiden seem to pearl in strong light without CO2 injection and very light fertilizer. :) There is a good chance to grow submerged.

Hi guys,
a strong pearling and/or thin, stringy new leaves are sign that your moss is not an aquatic moss, so it won't survive for long under water or it will show an abnormal growth.
There is really a big difference between a wet habitat and a submerged habitat because the gas exchange is different. But without a sufficient amount of CO2 and O2, your mosses won't survive very long. Observe them carefully and don't be disappointed if they don't do well in your tanks, a good sumerse growth is more like an exception among mosses.
The pearling effect is not a good sign. I keep various mosses under very strong light but normally they don't pearl at all or only in the evening when they reached their maximum photosynthesis level.
Good luck with your mosses and best regards
Robert

Hi Dom,
Robert has shaken my believe it is pearling. :D Take a look at the attached picture.
I will update in about 1 month, it is one of my no maintainance plant that stays in tanks I placed on my aircon compressors ledge that enjoy couple of hours of strong sunlight.

Is that willow moss you had?
I ask, because mine looks the same as yours.

I picked it from a garden plot, it does not look like a "normal" moss to me, but more like Fissidens spieces. I can't be too sure about this though.

The fissiden not as green as i first got it. Because I keeping it inside the CO2 free and low lighting tank. :D Out of tank to keep.... But the newer leaves are growing. I just empty up a tank last night. I am going to setup a high lighting and with co2 tank just for fissiden.

Really nice these mosses, quite different from the ordinary Vesicularia!
Unhappily (for me) it seems that you are ale living in South eastern Asia, so I don't think I'll be able to find such Mosses in the wild near my home (I live in the south-east of Brazil).
But there is probably something different here also, just waiting to be found. In such a case, I will post.
In the meanwhile, good luck in your experiences... Even if it shows up to be just a "paludarium" specimen, congratulations!
