Hi,

Its pretty hard to tell from the picture if it is a Caridina type or Neocaridina type. If possible try to re-take a clearer picture of your shrimp.

Does it look something like this? If it is, I suspect it might be a Neocardina type known as "Black shell shrimp" locally in singapore.

For your info, the pic i borrowed is a black shell shrimplet a few weeks old if you look at the plant its standing on its tiny in ratio. As it grows up more features will develop some with a brown stripe at the back and some with black bands. Even for RCS some has a pink stripe at its back and some dont and some are very red and some aren't. Some hobbist would even mistaken a male cherry (less red and slimmer) as a different species from its female counterparts.

The so called "black shell" are consider a plague among some cherry lovers who like to maintain a line of pure cherry offsprings as they are known to cross breed with RCS. However these "black shell" are excellent algae eaters like yamatos according to a hobbist i met has keeping them for fun occasionally he will get a few RCS from his black shell shrimps. Many hobbists are also getting a few black shell offspring from its cherry parents. However its like 1 out of 8 cherry offspring ratio. So far i dont have not seen any appearing in my cherry tank for many generations so i suppose my is a pure cherry line.

Or you might a found new species in your tank :D
Show us a clearer picture dont keep us in suspense. :p
