I got these guys from a pet store here in Toronto.
They called them "red-backed" shrimp.
I cannot find any reference to this name on the web.
Does anyone know what species these are ??
They are currently about half an inch long.

Looks alot like Neocaridina palmata, check wirbellose.de and click Artendatenbank, there you can find pictures and information in German (Babelfish will help you to translate it in english). If they are those, they are easy to keep and good and prolific breeders in my experience :)

I agree. Check this page out (http://www.wirbellose.de/klotz/nektarinen.html) (if you able to read german). The autor gives an explaination, whether the wildform of palmata has the red stuff in his body and the offspring not. In Germany they are called nectarines (peaches).
BTW. rain - you breed palmata. Is the offspring "peachless"?

They called them "red-backed" shrimp. Forgotten. Sorry. Same name in Germany. Besides the "nectarine/peach" common name. I never saw this shrimp at LFS here in Sweden.

The grandparents of my palmatas were all without the peach colour and the infestation and the offspring is too. The reason for the colour really is fascinating :)

Ah, you are correct.
These do appear to be Neocaridina Palmata.
Thanks for all the feed back.

Did you get them from Menagerie? I had couple before, they all had different color such as blue, brown, red, even black.
I found another site with abit of more Info. about it zwerggarnelen.info/artenliste/zw/nektarine.htm

Yes I did.
It appears that this is one of few places in the GTA that sells more than Amano's and Cherry's.
They had a number of other unlabeled shrimp ... looked like Ghost Shrimp but had longer nose.
I picked up a Singapore Fan Shrimp too.
Very cool shrimp.
