how much stress would cause a cherry shrimp to discard its eggs?
The reason I ask is because I want to move a single sponge out of that 10 gallon tank to a 5 gallon and put a dual sponge in the 10g. I will leave the old sponge in the tank with a new one. My cherries have just shown their eggs so I am worried that they may drop them from the stress of me moving stuff around. Any opinions?
Thanks.

I think it will be best you hold on first. Or when you see the pregnant lady far from where you are going to move the sponge then slowly proceed. I think the stress levels for egg discarding varies with different individuals. As you can see, some pregnant shrimps can be found in LFS and people scoop them up, pack in bags and bring home to new tank with the eggs still attached. So it is really a no garantee thingy. :)
My guess of when they discard eggs is that they are scared till they do a quick propel to "escape".

Hi walter,
Sorry for the late reply as I have been out of town.
I picked up another algae ball for my shrimp :)
Also some frogbit as I hear its good stuff for shrimp tanks.
I will make other arrangments and be carefull not to make my shrimp jump.
Thanks for the information.

IMO, It all depends on individual shrimp. I did some major movement of wood/mosses/pellia in my tank and out of 3 pregnant female cherries, one died couple of days later, and the others still gave me plenty of shrimplets. :D

I just noticed some wierd bugs brought in with the frogbit and I'm kinda concerned....
Impatientce has always been my biggest enemy when keeping aquaria!!!
Everything seems to be going okay so I guess I'm lucky so far...
What is the estimate on hatching of red cherry shimplets. Is about 20-25 days correct at the tempetaure of 26C?

Hi dwaffer,
yea the hatching duration is around 25 days if you maintain at 26 degrees. Hope your cherries hatch soon.
