I think one of my pregnant crystal reds has finally released the eggs after 30days. But I also have many newly hatched cherry red shrimplets in the tank. How long before I can clearly tell them apart?

CRS are born with the red/white banding, You can see the white banding very clearly although it is very tiny. If you cannot differentiate cherry or crs clearly, then they are probably cherry. I cry for you because I also got high mortaliy rate for my crs while my cherry are doing better.

You are certainly right: they are born with color. Finally I found couple of them last night, hopefully more are hiding in the extremely dense vegetation.
Here is a new born on glass, less than 24 hours old:

Kinda hard to tell from the photo. It can be a Cherry baby or a CRS that does not have much white band. Either way congrets!
Give it a week or so and you should be able to tell better. Snap more photos!

Actually, if you look from the other side(not in the photo), it is impossible to mistake it for cherries. The head is red/orange, in clear contrast to body. With cherry new borns, the whole body is nearly uniform.

I see 2 little white bars, a red patch and a white line near its tail. Congrate, it is a CRS baby. :)

I had two crystal red females giving birth about 10 days ago. I could see quite a few shrimplets right after they were hatched. However, I can only find very few of them afterwards. I was not sure what was going on, maybe most of them were hiding really well in the thick vegetation, maybe my neon tetras got to them. I was hoping it was the former.
Bought a net breeder and put the third pregnant female crystal red and the bumble bee in it last night. Their babies were due anytime.

This morning, I found that the crystal red hatched half of the shrimplets already. More were on the way. It is deliverying a baby, with its rear end raised. Within seconds, a shrimplets dropped out and jumped couple of times before settling down.

Here is the baby shrimplet, dropped out of mother's belly just 10 seconds ago,

Mother and baby, can you find the baby in the picture?

I found out what happened to my shrimplets soon enough. It turned out that the slots on the side of the breeder box were wide enough for the shrimplets to craw out! And one did, before my eyes, after a little stuggle. A neon tetra got to it immediately when it went swimming! AAARGH! Those neons were out of the shrimp tank! This is officially becoming a shrimp only tank.
So far, I have found crystal reds are pretty easy to breed, although its cycle is longer than cherries.

I can't say I share your pain, Sha! But I can say without a doubt that neons will never make a meal of my baby tigers when they hatch. hehe... I keep them in a shrimp only now and forever will. Thanks for sharing the wonderful pix.

your shrimplets look like about 2 months old.
I think it is hard to properly grade the juvenile cystal reds. They color up fully a few days after hatching, and they all look like grade A at least. However, as they grow up into adults, their white bands tend to degrade on most shrimps, with more red showing, or turning clear in some areas. It happened to my crystal reds.

Grading would be best once its reach adult size (3-4 mos), I guess
and see how the white bands develop or degrade.

If they are born with good color does that mean that they will stay good color?
I have some that look exactly like shalu's..kinda look like cherries, will they color up?

When they are small, it's hard to say *really* what grade the shrimp are. The banding may look extremely good, but when they grow up, the colors/banding may be less than stellar. So the answer is no, unless they are high grade shrimp.
Also, the coloration will depend on two factors: 1) genetics and 2) environment (food, water conditions, etc.)

adding to what Rich had mentioned....
When they are just a week or 2 old, their color won't look like what they will be when they grow up. They color is nicest around 1 month old and start to split into graded color/pattern when they grow older. However, even at 1 to 2 weeks old, it is possible to see some form of indication of what pattern they will have when they grow up.
One thing to watch out is the red, if they are maroon or even brown at very young age, when grow up, they will have deep red, and usually those have deep red which usaully comes with thick white.

Hi, I too have a tank of CRS with cherries. The latter are always pregnant and reproducing.
Had 3 CRs full of eggs for a few weeks and last weekend all eggs were released. Today found MANY SMALL (smaller than most cherries shrimplets) shrimplets with red head and transparent bodies. Cherries shrimplets are orangey in colour.
Are those 1-2 day old shrimplets CRS babies ? (hoping against hope with fingers-crossed). Can't wait to check them for white bands :x .

Most likely CRS babies. Cherry babies are clear and show no color when newly hatched. In fact, it takes quite some time before cherries begin showing their colors.
