New To Shrimping!!

Hey Everyone!!

This is my first forum entry! :D At this time, I have a 6 gal. tank w/Danios and Ghost shrimp. I am planning to purchase a 20-30 gallon tank for Cherry shrimp only. I'm doing as much research as possible b4 my purchase. I am a bit clueless about the type of filter I should purchase. I have no experience w/filters as my 6 gal. Eclipse tank is a "kit", all included. I understand that "sponge" filters are best for not sucking up little ones! How does a sponge filter work - do you attach it to the bottom of a regular filter?? Does anyone have advice about which filters are best? I do have a 10 gal. tank but would need to purchase a filter & lid for it - again, I am not sure what to buy.

Welcome to shrimping.

Over here in Singapore, we prefer using canister filter. You will need these for your shrimp tank:

- gravel
- lamp set
- filter
- driftwood
- moss

I think these are the minimal things you need to setup the tank.

Hey Wifi... thanks for replying! How does a sponge filter attach to a canister filter? :huh: I've tried to look this stuff up but sites only show the separate filters, not how they attach together. I've heard that Eheim filters are great.... I'd also have to buy a separate lid, any suggestions? Thanks for your advice!
