It certainly looks like a sand/pearl shrimp to me. I picked up 5 of these a few weeks ago, labeled as Christmas tree shrimp. I have them in a tank that has a lot of fry, and haven't had any problems with them attacking anything. The certainly like having a little cave to hang out in.

Wow, nice. :D:D

Looks like covered with snow. How is the pricing like?

Anyone knows the species type so we can know whether they will cross-breed with other species, such as cherries?

And hehe, hope to see those eggs hatch soon! lol

They are pretty nice on the white peral dotted...

This spices will lay direct to shrimplets ? The egges are big size like crs..

Very nice shrimp!!!

It almost look cartoonish with those BIG eyes! :D

It would be nice if they will breed in captivity too, please keep us posted on the babies if the eggs end up hatching.

Thx :)

That's what I was saying! :)

By cartoonish I meant that it's cute! Their big eyes remind me of surprised cartoon characters ( their eyes pop out when they are surprised ) ---->

48 hours in cool water in a bag with O2 is not a problem, provided that there is no death, any death can cause water to turn bad quickly and cause others to die.

Hi,
your shrimps look a lot like the so called "snowflake shrimp". This snowflake shrimp belongs to the species Macrobrachium mirabeli and breeds in freshwater. They produce only few eggs, maybe 20 or so. I have a group of 9 of them to for some time now.

They can change their coloration a bit to hide better. My shrimps lost most of their white spots and the brown ones are more intensive now. BTW, their max. size is circa 4cm. They are relatively peaceful but know how to defend themselves with their pincers if it is necessary. All in all, they are pretty shy and fearful. I keep them together with malayan and cherry shrimps (even shrimplets) and had no problems at all until now.

Best regards

Robert

Not really new. Being around for some time. Got some last year but all died. Not that easy to keep.

Nice specimens! They look like sand/pearl shrimp to me. Have/will you try a sand substrate? I think this is one of the few species of shrimp that actually burrow in sand, so a sand substrate will be good for them to make them feel more at home and also to enhance your experience. It would be interesting to see if they exhibit more interesting behaviors in an environment that simulates their natural home. I've never had experience with them, but they'd be great to keep.

BTW, it looks as this shrimp has got some nice, nasty looking claws  --as Robert pointed out, it could be a Macrobrachium species. I'd be careful and keep this one in a species only tank to avoid fish or other shrimp becoming meals. :sneaky:

I have posted some time back on the same species i think. :) They are easy to keep and breed non stop. Pregnant over and over again but just no shrimplet. I keep them with cherries, crs and malayan without problem.

I think i just found out why the M. mirabile won't breed  They're origanaly from mangroveareas in India...brakish water... The adult shrimps are probably tolarent enough to survive in fresh water but the little shrimplets aren't!
