Hi All! I'm new to this interesting forum. Just setup a 2ft tank for guppies, bare tank with only 1 "Hang on" filter & some oyster shells to buffer PH,currently at 7.2. From what I read, shrimps need rough surfaces & plants too,so is it a must to add gravel?Besides gravel, what can I put? For plants,I've read on Moss, nana petite, frogbite etc,but seriously I don't know how they look like, can someone help to post pics of them?I'm actually looking for plants that are easy to maintain like it'll not grow too fast & big, also don't require high dose of light.Anyone can suggest which type of plants should I get? Thanks a lot! :bs_help:

IMO, its not a must to add gravel. If you are planting nana petite on gravel, then you will be need gravel.
A nice big moss floor will also do the trick, I prefer a mossy look. As for moss, java moss is the easiest and fastest growing to cover the bare tank. If you are going for moss with nice fronts, you can also get christmas moss however taiwan moss might require a little Co2 to grow well.
You dont really need frogbits, its good to have some if you have strong lights.

You might want to remove the shell. Just a small piece of around thumb size is enough. Java moss is the best if you want easy maintanence.

There are many low light, slow growing plants to choose from. I keep java fern, java moss, and hygrophila (although not a low light plant) in my Amano (Yamato) shrimp tank. I am offering you a link to a low light plant guide, with information and most with pictures, so that you can have a better idea of the selection available to you. If you decided you do not want gravel, you could either just use moss on the flooring, use plant weights to hold plants in place, or attach plants directly to rock or driftwood. Good Luck! :)
If you swing by PlantGeek.net, they have a Plant Guide which you should be able to search through by clicking Light Requirements and then selecting Low Light.
