I am starting to test Natalit and Vulcanit, both are dark volcanic soils. But I have been tested akadama as soil for months with success.

in SG the most common soil will be the ADA soil, as for Natalit and Vulcanit not sure we have it in Singapore.

I have been using GEX (Japan Brand) Red Packet Soil, the water get clear very fast and also there is no detectable (test kits) ammonia. The cons are it is not as dark and have some white grains.

It contains low level of nitrate, which I think it is good. That will keep plant healthy and at the same time, take up other nutrient produced by shrimps. Well, a shrimp tank will not produce enough nitrate by itself for rooted plant to grow, maybe just enough for mosses.

do you have a pics of a bag of GEX ?

They are very nice and unique. What water parameter is good to get their blue out?

I am new to CRS and recently I just setup my 1st CRS tank (no CRS in the tank yet).

I am using GEX Shrimps & Plants soil (Red packing). Looks good to me.

I use the new H.E.L.P advanced soil which maintain my tank at 6.4-6.5. When tank is cycling, the PH drop to 5.5. No ammonia, nitrite and suck in nitrate as well.. Brown soil.

Wow, it's a new soil and you already using it? What PH does it maintain at? And I thought plant soil has more nutrient in it and is not really recommend for shrimp? Does it really need no cycle? Share with us more of the soil. Thanks!
