i'm growing the same moss. taiwan moss but they grew differently. both of they grow on mesh as back drop. only difference is one with co2 one without. but the difference is huge. the one with co2 grew out ant each of them is around 3cm long. the one without is only 1 plus cm.

any explainations?

it is obvious that the lack of one essential requirement, in this case carbon dioxide, can retard photosynthesis.....

fast moss growth = nutrients+light+co2+cool h2o temp...
alter one of the above will alter the growth rate.

just my imagination.... :D

I heard from people who grew taiwan moss saying that they requires:

1. High lighting
2. CO2

In order to grow well and to get light green huge fronts.

I am growing my taiwan moss under low lighting and no co2. I am experiencing slow growth although they didnt die off.

Some moss requires high light and co2 to grow well and some dont.
Hope that explains why. :)

It also depend on if there is anything that is eating the moss. And also the bioload, high boilaod the moss will not grow well.

I agreed with Kross, plants requires CO2 & as human needs O2 .
Lets back to Biology :D

both of the moss looks different especially those that are nearer to the lighting. those lower down, it looks more alike except smaller.

One of the harder things in identifying mosses is the fact that they can grow in a very different shape, as water, lights and growing conditions may vary

Just the macroscopic aspect of them can be very confusing

I have javamoss and minimoss they both grow beautifully under ok lighting and without CO2 injection :)
