Platonic relationship ?...
-> like whereby the shrimp is feeding... while the clams open up for cleaning?

or is the shrimp devoured? :undecided

yeah, good point there... they foul water easily when dead and you cant really tell...

so i guess you have to remove the clam ASAP after you took the picture :)

hadn't seen that b4, but if it were me, i'd let the shrimp do what they do best... EAT!

But how much can they finish? I heard dead clams foul up water really quickly.

The rotting process may cause an ammonia spike, which is very deadly for the shrimps. And I don't think such meaty foods are very good for shrimps. Which are usually more herbivourous based. Of course there are exceptions, but the ammonia issue would be a problem again. :)

I agree that clams rot quite quickly in water but these shrimps are so fast on eating up the clam meat that there is not much left to rot. In my RCS tank a dead clam will only be around for a day or so as the shrimps take turn working on it.

As far as shrimps eating meat. I feed them frozen blood worm on a regular basis and they seem to welcome it. You guys do that too right? :)

Hmm, I am not too sure though. lol I feed algae wafers as staple diet, have not tried BW yet. :)

Try it! My shrimps ( CRS, RCS, Tiger, Bee, Amano ) love bloodworms.

Anyone else feed their shrimps frozen bloodworms? I can't be the only one!!! :D

Sure, will try out BWs soon. :D

Anyway amber you feed brime shrimp and daphnia live? The shrimps are able to hunt them down? Cause I didnt expect these shrimps to be like a carnivore.

My Amano shrimp love bloodworms, they always seem to grab the ones I feed to the fish :p I haven't tried it with my cherry shrimp yet, perhaps I'll try tomorrow.

>> The rotting process may cause an ammonia spike
This is correct, any meat will do this as it breaks down, i.e. clean up crew required to EAT it fast or you got to get it out of there fast !

Ammonia is toxic to everything we have in tanks, even teh smallest amounts can cause BIG problems, and is the first part of the hydrogen cycle and so the tanks needs to cater for this, normally never so well even in mature tanks unless VERY big tanks
