I want to get you guys opinion on this.
I posted this photo of my tiger shrimp on petshrimp.com and the moderator over there ( Mr. know-it-all wanna be Professor Shrimp ) said that he is 100....10000% sure that this shrimp is stressed or sick (Maybe he can speaks "shrimp" and he called my house and had a conversation with my shrimp? :D ).
Personally I don't quite agree with him but since I'm not a biologist ( neither is he ) I can't say for sure whether it is or not.
What do you guys think?
Oh btw, this shrimp is still around today and I think she is ready to give birth to some babies....can't wait!

Hi,
I'm no biologist but a biology student and tiger shrimp breeder for years now, so perhaps I can help you. This tiger shrimp is not sick, just a bit stressed perhaps, depends on their "normal" coloration. Tiger shrimps can change their coloration slightly (!) depending on their mood, the food etc. . So if it is a bit pale, don't worry too much.
BTW, most shrimps change their coloration a little bit during pregnancy. Even in the different stages, they can look different. Cherries get more intensive red color normally while CR tend to be more pale than before. Tiger shrimps sometimes do not change their color, sometimes they do. So don't worry. A pinkish coloration would be a sign that something is wrong because then the shrimp is almost dead.

Robert

As long as it live on, it is not sick. Sick shrimps do not necessarily die immediately, but seldom stay alive for more than 2 weeks or so. Update us 2 weeks later, time will tell. :D

GHz - I think that was the post where I told "Mr. Know-it-all" off, and said my "final goodbye" to that unfriendly site.
Such an assessment about your shrimp's health should not be made from a photograph. It's like if you sent a photo of a slightly skinny fish to a veterinarian and you ask, "What disease does my fish have?" They would have no idea, and it would be unethical for them to even guess, especially if you are asking their "professional advice." At the least, they must see the animal with their own eyes. While your photograph is a good one, it is only representative of one moment in time, and it can also be inaccurate - I know I have problems getting true-to-life color in my digital photos. Maybe it was rendered a little bit more "red" when you took it... Stuff like this is always possible.
As a *hobbyist* he has the right to voice his opinion, but that's all... His word is not "God's" OR a veterinarian's OR even a scientist's, for that matter. Besides, as somebody who has been pregnant twice, I can tell you that it *is* stressful!!! I'm sure carrying around, cleaning and fanning 30 or so eggs for four long weeks would have to cause stress for any creature ;) . Take a look in the gallery at Zhou Hang's beautiful red tiger shrimp. Somebody posted the photo at Petshrimp and Mr. Know-it-all said of this specimen that it was sick and dying, and even made the accusation that the names of the shrimp in his collection were being "pulled out of thin air." In fact, it is Mr. Zhou Hang who is getting much of *his* information from a much more reliable source than Mr. Know-it-all will ever have access to. Assume no validity in the man's statements. He talks like a tyrant, and runs his site like one. He may claim to have "all the facts," but nature is always proving to us that we must be flexible with our thinking and our beliefs. We can make generalizations, but that's as "100%" as we can be, which is not 100% at all.
BTW, my Yamato shrimp are always going from clear to slightly "opaque" and back to clear again. I think they are particularly clear and shiny right after molting. I think that while carrying eggs, the shrimp cannot molt, so maybe when she releases her eggs, she will shed and all will be well.
I can't wait to see photos of the babies!!! :D

i have one with the same coloration (without the eggs :p ), in the same batch as the rest for a few months, and all now happy with the rest. they do change color once a while, from shade of blue to clear or to some dark brown, they still live on :D
dont worry too much about the pregnant tiger, give us an update when shrimplets spotted

Hey Naomi :)
Yes that was indeed the one that caused the arguement with Professor Shrimp.
It was really cool for you to back Richard on that. More people should put him in his place and not let him verbally abuse people like that.

I will definitely post photos of the baby tigers as soon as I can spot them. The tank they are in has a lot I mean A LOT of jave moss so it might take a while before I can spot one.
Fingers crossed! :)

Well it looks perfectly fine to me!!! :D :D And I agree with fruitpie that if it can stay alive for more than 2 weeks, it's gonna survive :p

She has already given birth. I saw her the other day running around with her nice RED stripes :P
She lives in my 60G tanks so it's hard to see her babies but once in a while I would see this thing darting around the bottom when they get spooked by my baby loaches.
I have been trying to take some photos of her babies but it's hard to spot them in a 60G.
I will post some photos when they get bigger.
Seems like professor Know-it-all Shrimp was completely wrong ( no surprise there! ). :D
So Naomi, where's our Pellia? :)
Are they growing for you?

Congratulations, GHz!!! How exciting! Twice I had a tiger shrimp berry, but both times the eggs got dropped in the first few days. Don't know why  .
If you mean "mini pellia" it's not even in my possession, yet. I think it will arrive tomorrow or Friday, if it was sent yesterday. Rich, you're getting the "Hawaiian mini pellia" too, right? Now, to get our hands on some "Singapore mini pellia" <scheming-scheming> :joking: . But seriously, it would be neat to grow them side-by-side to see how different they are. Maybe someday... :)
Hey, Marge ~waving~! Oh, I've already popped a number of veins from that :D . I also blew a gasket and nearly spontaneously combusted, too  . I wouldn't call myself "mellow" but it does take quite a bit of doing to make me *that* angry :furious3: . I had to order some new veins for repairs and I think I'm cooling off, now :p

yep, getting some hawai'ian mini pellia from Aaron on APC, dunno how much, so when i do, i'll be sure to bring some to SFBAAPS for all to share. :) i'll be expecting the singapore version in return when you've had the chance to grow it out some.

Thanks!
I think you need to get your Miss Tiger a boyfriend. :D
If Rich is still coming down here in June or July he can pick some up for you. I usually don't import Tiger shrimps myself since it's readily available here so it's cheaper for me to just buy them from my wholesaler. This time however I might be importing some with nice solid patterns with my shipment so I will keep you posted.

Hey GHz
You export as well???? Just checking to see if you send any over the borderline ... ~sigh~ We don't get anything over here, it is just so depressing some times!
