for instance the Cherax quadricarinatus. aka red claw or yabbi
This is an australian lobster. In Australia it's on the menu...
Notice that the larger species are a desaster for your plants... and the like to dig holes.. you have to have a special designed tank.. the best is to glue the rocks for instance.. the dig under it and it's possible that the rocks fall against the window of your tank and brake it..
I had two of this kind.. No plants at all in my tank after a week.. all eaten.. rocks were moved and the gravel replaces..
But it seems that the are delicious ....:D

Hi acesk,
If you are serious about breeding crayfish, even if they are for the table then I would consider a pond instead. As you are in Singapore the red claw crayfish should do ok in an outside pond, that's if you have the space. Personally I would throw a lot of terracota pots in the pond and leave them to it.

It's quite easy to breed crayfish. Just buy 1 set (3 males 5 females) put them in a tanks. Soon they will mate :). Don't forget to add a hideout or they will eat each other. PVC pipe is good. 5 inch females can carry 500-800 eggs. If you can find walkamin red claw, buy it. It has a better growth rate than other red claw. If you are serious about breeding it for small business, you have to buy at least 10 set.
And yes, Ms Jose, red claw is very very delicious. :) The taste is different from sea lobster.

I see. I can't bear to eat my own breed lobster. Does temperature plays a part in breeding it? How big can a red claw grow? How long does it took to reachm maturaity? :cheesy:

I don't eat my crayfish either, I ate it in the restaurant. :D Very tasty, you should try it. Maybe some resto in East Coast already have it on their menu?
Don't worry about temp. If they could live and breed in Jakarta, they could live and breed in Singapore. +/- same wheater condition.
Dunno how big it can grow, but people sell big red claw for breeder in size between 4"-7" (60-120 gram). Consumption size is +/- 4"-6" = 60-100 gram (10-12 red claw per 1 kg)
It reach sex maturity when they reach 4" or about 6 month. But better separate the male and female and wait until they reach size of at least 5". They will carry larger number of eggs, and the eggs itself is bigger thus in turn will hatch into a better quality red claw (higher survival rate).
