Hello all,
I am new to keeping shrimps. I have a question: What is the acceptable nitrates level for CRs? I am planning to keep CRs in my heavily planted tank and the plants need fertilizers.
Please advise. Thank you.

here's my theory....not advise. :D
as low as possible...probably close to zero ppm... :p
don't use liquid fert if u can help it...they kill shrimps...not just crs.
using base fert has less effect on the shrimp cos the plants intake it before the minerals can dissolved in the water. also, don't overdose the fert.
just my imagination.... :D

Hi,
I have no experience of CRs but my cherries do fine with 10ppm KNO3, which add after the weekly water change, during the week I often add another dose. I also dose KH2PO4, micronutrients and have pressurized CO2. The shrimps seem to do fine and just got my first shrimplets. After I saw the shrimplets I reduced the micronutrient dose as it contains some traces of copper.
But as I wrote, I have no exprience on CRs so I don't know if they are more sensitive than cherries.
Cheers,
Jon

More experiences about this subject?
I have Neocaridina palmata and 'Zeylanica' in my heavily planted tanks. I use self made clay+peat balls, Tetra Crypto tablets, Sera FlorePlus tablets, Seachem Excel and Flourish, PMDD, I add CO2 and I add NO3 to keep it about 10-15ppm. Zeylanicas carry eggs frequently and palmatas multiply happily. But I suppose these ones are hardier than Crystal Reds.
Has anyone kept succesfully Crystal Reds in such conditions? I am about to try :)
