Hey guys....
Does it work with this setup ?
Need comments & advise ..........
5.5ft x 1.8ft x 1ft - Internal Overflow System - Filteration - Used tank
As shrimps are more sensitive to water condition parameter, i have think of this ideal of setup up this tank.....
Will the water condition perfect ?
1. No gravel
2. Replace with Taiwan Moss ground - Not setup yet.
3. DIY under filter to suck dirt.
4. Rain pipe to push all dirt to front and suck by small powerhead to the IOS
5. No worry of the inlet flow part - I have a way to prevent shrimps flowing in...

A unique design. :) Seems that it will be a maintainance free tank for you. The only concern I have is that if you want to scoop up any shrimps, you will have to remove the mesh.

I will be having Taiwan moss tying on mesh which have smallest hole on top the white mesh.. So shrimp will not be under white mesh...

your title says it all.... :joking: u sure got lots of space around!
from what i see, admiring the shrimps is pretty difficult from the sides since it is sitting on the ground? viewing from the top is more viable but the ripples will cause problems....i guess this is a breeding tank?
just my imagination.... :D

Hi,
that's really a large tank for shrimps but it would also be a LOT of work if you use this set up. The shrimps will mainly hide under the mesh because the like dark places and there will be some mulm with food for them. To net them would mean to remove most of the mesh.
I would not use it at all, I see no use for it. Bind the taiwan moss on driftwood piece or stones which you can easily remove. Don't at too much current to the ground, so that there can be mulm which does not swim thru the whole tank.
If you really want to breed shrimps in this tank, the set up must be easy to remove but good for shrimps. I would recommend about 0.2 inch of mulm (enough to cover most of the bottom), lots of moss-covered DW pieces and some floating plants, best would be frogbite. The frogbite should not be too dense or your moss will suffer from too less light. But shrimps love to sit on the roots of the frogbite, it help to filter the water and you can easily remove it.
BTW, the overflow filter could cause some problems with the shrimps. Make 110% sure that there is no way for them to get into the filter. If they could, the will try to get in the filter. The darkness, the current and food (bacteria and other microorganisms in the filter mulm) attracks them a lot.
regards
Robert

Dear All....
Thanks for all advise,
Some update of Tank setup... 60% completed Taiwan Moss ground tied on 2mm holes black plastic mesh..
As mentioned filteration inlet 110% no chance for shrimp to get thru & water current slow and will fine for shrimps...
Will place in 4 pcs of Drift wood tied with Taiwan moss and also will wait till moss ground grow perfect-to prevent shrimplets from going under, then i will start to place some cheap shrimps for testing..

Now I have idea of what you want to do. Those plastic mess is still too big for shrimplets. Use green cloth type of mesh is better, much smaller size.

Will go LFS to see how small holes the green netting is...
Then decide to use netting to prevent shrimplet for undergoing..
Will shrimp servive if they go under ?
