Hi all,
I recently bought a bunch of RCS and i noticed that one of them has a tan almost cream colored stripe going from the rostrum to the base on the tail on the posterior (back) of the shrimp.
I have noticed this in many other shrimp but not on a Red Cherry. Has anyone else encountered this.. is this normal?
Thanks
Marc

Some of my RCS have it too. Only color variation a guess.

Hi Marc,
don't worry about your cherry shrimps. There are 2 main color variants of them. There is the red striped version, which seldoms shows a stripe on the back. And there is the solid red variant which often shows this stripe. Both are cherry shrimps as far as we know and they can breed together. The offspring will be a mix of both variants.
That's one of the female cherry shrimps of the solid red variant:

That's a cross with the striped version:

It still shows the stripes but also the cream colored stripe on the back.
best regards

Hmm... very interesting.
Yes, most of my RCS are the stripped version without a cream stripe.. .only 1 of them which was recently aquired has that cream stripe.
Now that i have browsed through many pictures on the website, i do notice that cream stripe more often. But mostly i see rather pale and not well defined cream stripe.
Do you think that it is possible to selective breed and develop that stripe so that it is a nice solid cream... or if we are lucky.. maybe white... stripe. If so, then that might be a nice little project for me to work on... trying to improve that cream stripe
Cheers
