Curious how often do you guys feed your shrimps. Hope this thread can act as a guide to help control overfeeding which fouls up the water fast causing problems like worm population explosion and algae bloom.
1. Twice a day ?
2. Once everyday ?
3. On alternative days(4 times a week)?
4. 3 times a week ?
5. 2 times a week ?
6. As and when you feel like it ?

Once per day in the evening, the food amount usually large enough to to be consume for a day, I don't follow the fish feeding rule that food to be consume within 5 minutes. Shrimps are scavenager and to ensure every shrimp has a share of food.
Certain worms do not feed directly on excessive food, from what I observed. Once I setup a new tank, with diftedwood and moss only and during fishless tank cycling with no source of food, there was a high build up of worms and tiny "flea" on the glass. Hence, I cannot agree to the theory widespreading in the internet of stop excessive feeding will eliminate the worms or at least certain type of worms.
Excessive feeding causing water foul is a serious problem for shrimp tank, though, and this is more serious that a fish tank.

My 5 footer shrimp tank is already 7 months old and I've yet to feed my shrimps!!!!!!! :D Neither have i changed the water nor rescape it once! and so far, there's been no dead sightings except on about 3 occations. Shrimp population is still about the same and there's been some procreation from them as well! :joking:

i've yet to feed my shrimp as well. due to nano tank. scare the nitrate and amonia going up fast. Somemore there are lot of green algae n BBA for them to clean up.
Water change once every 2 weeks. Since the babies shrimp are quite big now. Water was changed daily when the tank just up or first 1 month. Then no water change for a month + when the female just hv their babies.

Hi,
I feed every second or third day with a quarter of a pleco food tablet for about 20 adults. They are fed at night because then they are less shy. They get new algae-rich moss almost every week when I clean the containers of my mosses and I noticed that I dosed once again too much of the fertiliser. They get frozen artemia in small amonts about once a week and from time to time some cyclop-eeze and protein-rich pellets.
regards

I also feed once a day. I rotate foods among spirulina tablets, HBH crab/lobster bites, shrimp pellets and a new experiment with seaweed that they seem to really like. :)

Shrimp will continuously eat and eat and eat. I don't think they ever truly get full. Food simply gets digested and pushed out thru the other end. I feed only 2-3x/week to give them some variety, but other than that, they eat algae of the java moss, java fern, riccia, or any dying vegetation. I feed hikari crab cuisine, hikari algae wafers, some fish food, boiled spinach, and boiled cucumber.
