Alright so I want some crystal red shrimps after reading about them. However, the sites that I went to are not very specific in details. Here's my tank parameters and I would like to know if it's workable (as in, will they breed and multiply):

10 gallon tank with lots of taiwan moss
Sponge filter
Temperature under 75F but over 70F
pH is 7.6
GH is 12-13 dH

I have a question on the KH. My water supply shows alkalinity and bicarbonate in the tests. Which one do I use to check the KH? If I use the alkalinity I'll have a KH of 8.5 dH and if I use bicarbonate I'll have a KH of 10.3 dH.

So what do you think? Is that tank workable?

Hey JBN everything looks okay except for the PH and GH. Try aiming for 6.5 for crystal red shrimp they wont do that well with a high PH. For GH i think most people aim for 3-4DH (soft) correct me if im wrong please.

There's this german site that kept their shrimps in 14 dH for the GH. The site is here: http://www.crystalred.de/ and you can translate them using Google language.

Well cherry shrimp and crystal shrimp normally like soft water from what i've heard. That is what i keep mine at and theres ALOT of young everywhere.

JBN,

Low ph around 6.5-6.8 and GH around 3-6 works the best.
Temps between 71-75F should be okay.

.....about the german site....They are breeders and......They use ferts! So for me it isnt really true that ferts and rcs are not compatible....they0re compatible in the right measure..

see you soon

Do you think that a professional breeder would use ferts if they're dangerous???Think about it! :undecided
