View Full Version : Boiled Spinach?

Hi all,

I have read that CRS goes crazy over boiled spinach and tried feeding them with it from those that I had bought in NTUC, making sure they're washed cleanly first before boiling for about a minute or 2.

However my CRS don't seemed to be the least tempted by it and they even chose the Hikari Algae Wafer over the spinach when I threw 1 down to experiment. I had also left the spinach there for around 10 hours each time so as not to pollute the water.

Then recently I read a post saying that there are different types of spinach and the CRS will only take the round type. Making sure I got the correct one, I decided to give it another try but they still ignored it! The furthest the CRS did was just to "pretend" to be real excited and rushes to the spinach, only to lose interest in less than a minute. :p

Is there anything I'm doing wrong here or just that my CRS are wierd? Thanks in advance for any tips or advices! :D

Your shrimp just have different taste. Just like some people do not like chocolate, that does not make them weird or does it?!

It may take some time to get them accustomed to being fed spinach. They may not like it when you first feed it to them because they are not used to eating it. Once they sample it a few more times, they may take to it. In some sense, it's an acquired taste.

Usually, in tank that has fewer CRS, they have developed their taste buds for certain food. However, in a tank that has many CRS, they will go for all kind of food.

You can reset their taste bug for not feeding them for one or 2 days, the introduce the new food.

jeanxaiver, are you sure that the spinach that you purchased from NTUC is organic type?

Exactly. A feeding "blackout" can be an effective tool.

Haha shrimper06, you make it sound as if I am trying to force my CRS to eat those spinach. Actually I had the perception that the vege is suppose to be one of their favourite foods, that's why I'm just wondering why they are not taking it.

Thanks retardo for you advise, I will try it a few more times, maybe twice a week.

Silane, you are spot on regarding the number of CRS that I have. Since I have only just began this CRS keeping affair, I only have 5 of them. Will also try your method of blackout. Those spinach I bought from NTUC are not organic I suppose.. only 65cents a pack. Is organic a must?

The benefit of feeding spinach is to enhance the intensity of their colors by providing iron, right?
