Dear all,
I have 7 CRS & about 10 CRS shrimplets. For the past 1 week, I have observed that 2 of my adult CRS's white strip had transformed to dull clear colour. My other 5 adult CRSs and shrimplets are still okie, alive and active.
I understand that it could be due to poor water conditions. But how come the the other CRS are not affected?
Also I have to remove protein formed on the water surface on a daily basis. Please advice how to reduce the protein from forming? Will the protein on the water surface acts like a film of "oil" and block out oxygen supply to the shrimps? That's what I am afraid of. Although I do have a fan and no filter.
Thanks!

Overfeeding algae waffers will increase the oil on the surface so feed less. Crs are not big eaters like cherry and yamato.
Are they eating ok? Those dull colored ones?
Shrimps change colors once in a while my cherry also ....i guess it depends more on their mood. :D Dont worry. Most importantly is they feed actively.

Learn my knowledge from some friend & LFs...
I do have oil protein problem, i solve it by adding a very small powerhead thru a raining bar and it solved...
For CRS once the white or red turn dull clear colour, it means the shrimp very hard to pull thru...
I do have this problem too, after few hours dead ...
Hope yours will be ok...
So far never heard of any medicine for shrimps...

colour change in cherries is quite normal... but for CRS i am not sure.
anyway to remove excess protein oil layer u can add an airstone or use surface skimmer. and yes if the oil film is on top it does block off oxygen dissolving... i think it is best u add a filter. hope it isnt the case of what jojoe explained... good luck...

I montior my survivor crs(the one) for 2 weeks so far i notice the white band intensity sometimes changes with the amount of co2 in the water (acidic) more intense alkaline with ph 7.5 (water change)(stressed intensity faded).
Because I got to ensure the bubble rate every 2-3days with manual regulator the bubble rate kept reducing(on for 24hr). So far ...it survived the HDB insecticide nuke....hope to breed its offspring to be more HDB insecticide resistant.

U mean after 1 week still translucent color ?
Normally when it stable the color should be more or less to normal..
Unless u bought it in lower grade...
What is your tank parameter ?

New tank?
Whats your ph? when color fades for all shrimps mean high ph or stress.

Yes .. It is a new tank setup .. Have not measure the parameters yet .. will do that tomorrow .. However, the rest of the CRS (3 of them) have no problem ..

Are they actively eating? If not it will be a problem.
How long have you cycling your tank for your crs btw, i am curious?
Cause i am currently cycling 2 tanks.....getting a bit tick off the dirty look of the water haha :D

They are all eating well. Feeding them Hikari Algae wafer and some fish pellet.
I actually did not really condition the tank. What I did is use the water from the source that I bought together with the CRS and add in de-chorinated water. It is a very small tank (6 " x 4" x 6") and so I did not add any filter or aeration. However I have added taiwan moss and java moss in the tank.
Since then, I have changed about 10% of the water after a week dued to a of of shit.

If a CRS is known to have nice color before, it is very likely due to the current not ideal water condition that make it dull or "run of white" and they still can live on.
Sometime dull color or "run of white" happens days or hours before death.
Some of them the color will come back after setting down.

Hi Vinyx,
I have two CRS that shares the same systoms as yours! I discovered last nite that they looked as though someone had "chalk" dust on them. I hope they are not suffering from any disease! Or could they be shedding skin?
