    Default Planted nano shrimp tank

Im going to be setting up a nano shrimp tank, but I want it to be planted and lush. Ive been looking at the fluval ebi (http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/aq...arium-kit.html) and fluval flora tanks (http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/aq...plant-kit.html)

Both come with substrate one is fluval shrimp stratum, the other is fluval plant stratum. Ive looked at descriptions for both and the write ups are almost identical.

So im wondering what the difference is?

I would assume the plant is better for plants but is it actually good for shrimp and vice versa

Hi, the only difference between the two is the granule soil of the substrate. The substrate in both are both exactly the same. The flora one has a bigger granule size than the other one. Really is no difference. It's up to you really.

Ok, thanks, I'll go flora then due to the added co2 kit, I already have prime for water conditioner and our waters hard anyway, and i have a small net and shrimp food already so, the ebi would have no benifits for me.

With hard water you will be able to keep shrimps like Amano, RCS etc.... If you gonna go for CRS, i would recommend a 50/50 with RO water.

It doesnt come with a heater, so I need to find a nano sized heater, I plan to go the yellow variant of RCS and crs, Ive just been talking to a lfs, asking about RO water and he said "you can come buy RO water from us but we just use declorinated tap water for our all our shrimp including our crystal reds, and theyve been breeding in this water" but at 3.50 for 25 litres of RO I may still do the 50% RO anyway to be safe.

Quick question about the RO thing, I plan to jump start the cycling by using seeded filter media from my dads community tank. Will the change in minerals and such in RO water effect the bacteria in the seeded media?

Im not an expert but from what i know when you use RO water all the mineral that come out of the water mains are removed, so using a 50/50 split like you're going to do will be better as too much minerals is not good plus crs prefer a more soft acidic water condition. I dont think RO water needs to be dechlorinated either as it is pure. It shouldnt be a problem with the seeded water as long as you remember to dechlorinate the tap water first otherwise it will kill the bacteria.
