Yeah, I'm on the same boat as you. Over the last year, wedding and moving into our first place took a toll. At my peak I had over 100 crs some were beauties I brought back from korea. Now I have 4 =C. I'm going again around xmas so I was thinking of starting a shrimp rack and getting my water weell aged.
I don't have a drill so will have to cut a square in the middle rather then a circle. But I will cut it bigger for better water flow. Do you think an eheim 2213 + double air driven sponge filter will be enough for a 36"x12"x14" long tank? Or do I need a pre-filter? What do you consider prl? As long as they breed true or if they've never been crossed before with snow white? Cuz I can get prl (breeds true)for $15-$50 but jprl (never x with snow) are +$250

your filtration should be fine, any holes will work so long as the concept is there which is water going through.

In regards to PRL's, personally i like the challenge and in the end of the day you can see your progress and you can pat your back of job well done. There was a discussion about authenticity of PRL on another thread which is very interesting about their back rounds, i guess it is better to create your own so you know exactly what you cross your shrimps with vs a breeder telling you that it never crossed snow white before.

I have nothing againts UGF but i would rather have a big sponge filter connected to that line than a UGF. When i used UGF i connected it to my canister and after about a year i didn't really like the result in comparison to not having it connected to a canister.

Stephen, can you please explain what was the result? Did the soil decompose faster?

    Hi Imke,

I just didn't like it because after a year or so it clogged up my canister, not only that but it created bubbles that were trap on my substrate and when these gets sucked up by my filter it makes sounds which i don't like. This is personal so i have nothing agents using UGF connected to canister filter.
