Default Just Got Crystal Red Shrimp

I just got some Crystal Red Shrimp in the mail today. I let the bag float in the tank for 30 minutes, and then added them to the tank. Are they suppose to act like cherries, and pick at the ground and leaves constantly? Because mine don't. They have been swimming around the tank, near the upper portions, and occasionally land on leaves just to take off again. The red and white portions are a faded color, some of them are colored strong, but some of them seem like they haven't colored up. Is this normal?

What is their typically demeanor and behavior?

10 gallon no tech: java moss, 50+ cherries.
    Ammonia:0
    Nitrite:0
    Nitrate: 0-15 ppm
    Temperature: 26 c
Food: Hikari Algae wafers - what else should I feed?

I'm really new to CRS and need your help, and personal tank experiences.

    Hi,

CRS are more sensitive to changes in your water parameters than RCS resulting in this behaviour.

It might be there is a great difference in water parameters/environment from the previous CRS owner and they are just trying to get used to it. They will eventually stop swimming around after a day once they get used to the environment.

Its very hard to say, you got to wait and see.
    Regards,
    Sim

Did you just release them into tank water or slowly add tank water into the bag to mix them?

If the aimlessly swim do not reduce with 24 hours, you may have to find alternative matured tank for them. Reduce the temperature to 24C, remain there or adjust back after they have stablised.

They might need more time to adjust to your tank. Wait a day or two and make sure your water is in tip top condition.

Its a big mistake to put them in a new tank without bringing the water for a line between 2-3 hours. Specially CRS are very sensitive for changed parameters.

Further shrimps prefer an older tank with stable water parameters.

If you do not have more tanks you can only hope they will do there best.

Hello Robin, is it possible they are different grades of shrimp?

Letting the bag float for 30 minutes only equalise the temperature which is 1 of parameters during acclamatisation process.

You will also need to slowly add water from tank into the bag to allow time for the CRS to get use to the other water parameters such as PH.

The constant swimming to the top is a sign of the shrimp irritated by the difference in environment.

Hope they get use to the change in water parameters and settle down to similar behaviou of the cherries.

    good luck.

I'm sure they are different grades. Range from C to B.

The CRS are doing okay right now. must of been a water quality shock.
