I would try liquid fertiliser that's low in metal and copper etc,

This is mine and the plants are doing fine without co2

Another thing, my tap water is nearly a ph of 8. The fluval stratum I use has ph lowering properties, so in my tank ita about 7 to 7.2. Should I just leave the ph alone when I do water changes or should I use a gh product like seachem equilibrium when I change water?

Cherry shrimps are pretty adaptable when it comes to pH and water hardness, just make sure you don't change to much water in one go when doing water change once a week maybe 25 - 30%.

Less stuff you add to the tank the better so I'd leave it natural by not adding things to the water and see how you get on.

Update: I think copper was killing them. I switched to ro water and added the necessary minerals/electrolytes and I am no longer losing shrimp. Live and learn.

I have one more shrimp that is beginning to split behind the top of its head. Maybe my efforts were too late for this one?

Another thing I am concerned about....if I had copper in my water, could it have seeped into the fluval plant stratum and be slowly leaching back out? Could it be high enough in concentration to start killing shrimps again?
