Never try before. However, according to the website, it does buffer the water to acidic and it stated clearly shrimp friendly. Therefore, it should be fine.

If you are keen on trying, I will suggest the black 4-5mm type.

Do take note for these sort of design for plant substrate, you will need to cycle it at least 3 to 8 weeks before putting in any shrimp (depending of the amount and type of plants you put into the tank; no plant will take longer). During the cycling, try to change the water as often as possible.

It's a plant substrate but shrimp friendly. Thus, I believe it should have fertilizer in it.

My opinion for shrimp substrate is as long as it is porous (real estate for bacteria), light in weight (shrimp can dig them or take it up) and dark in color should be good (bring out the color of shrimp; this does not work on certain type of shrimp).

For those contain fertilizer, you just need to cycle it properly, which include longer cycle period (about a month), cycle with a fast growing stem plant (exclude this if you plan to have planted tank) and change a lot of water during your cycling phase.
