It's definitely green in color as in the below photos but not too sure if they are called Green Shrimps or Green Neon Shrimps or others. Any idea?

I'm not too sure if they are the same as mine too? Maybe Robert can help.

Hi Chris,
they are definitely not malayan shrimps! Take a look into the article about green shrimps in the species list (here: http://www.shrimpnow.com/modules.php?name=Content&file=viewarticle&id=8 ) , these shrimps have no real scientific name yet. There are several green species which you cannot differentiate with your bare eyes and all of them are kept in captivity. I imported green shrimps from Singapore before and had to make the experience that they are not the same as mine. Some of the imported females never got pregnant although the conditions were right and my own ones were pregnant in the same tank. They also had a slightly different coloration in my opinion which had nothing to do with their mood. But the coloration of green shrimps is very variable and not a good sign to differentiate them, so I could be wrong. Normally the green shrimp species can only be differntiated by their egg size and the larvae stages.

For the moment call them green or green neon shrimps, both names are common. The scientific name is for the moment Caridina cf. babaulti spp. 'green' because of some morphology similarities to C. babaulti. But there are some other species which belong to this group of babaulti-like shrimps e.g. a shrimp from Juhor (which is not the same as your malayan shrimp but looks similar).

best regards

Robert

very nice green shrimps u have...

i have some of these, but somehow they looks like malayan to me as there is one dark thick stripe across the back...making it similar to malayan shrimps.
furthermore, it's color is those 'dirty' green type.
wondering...those i have belongs to malayan 'mix'
