Hello,

I have Geosesarma sp Vampire for almost a year now (3 couples), and finally I found babies! I have seen 11 at the same time but I think there must be more.

Congratulations on the birth! Very beautiful!
You have a tank just for them and what values they hold?
What do you feed him?

Thanks!:)

Yes I have a tank only for them: 60 x 30 x 45 cm, 1/3 water 2/3 ground. Only the water is heated (27C), it heats the air in the tank. The water parameters don't matter because my crabs rarely go into the water, only for moulting. The hygrometry is about 75/80%.

They eat JBL Nanocrabs and Aqua-Tropica AT Geosesarma-Vital.

Very beautifull crab, congrats! Geosesarma sp. "vampire" do this need saltwater? I have understand that these lives mostly on ground, but need water, is this right?

Thanks!:)

Geosesarma sp "Vampire" don't breed in saltwater. There is no larval stage, they are born similar to adult.

Mine rarely go into the water, only to moult. But they need a high hygrometry (75/80%).

Thanks gnod and Murad :)

Gnod, are you sure there aren't hidden babies?

What is the temperature in your tank? Did you try to increase it a little? That's what I did when I was desperately waiting for my crabs to breed and it worked.

actually i can't be too sure if they are none. i've only had them for 6 months or so and i thought i saw pregnant female or two - their carapace was protuding ever so slightly.
my tank temps range from 75-80.. usually around 78
humidity is aroaudn 75-80 also.

I didn't have the chance to see females with eggs, I missed that a second time: since two weeks I have seen new babies in the tank (5 mm).

Hi

My first babies are almost adults now, they are nicely colored. It takes them a long time to be violet with red/orange eyes.

Now the vampires breed regularly, I have more than 30 crabs of all sizes in the tank.

The first babies:

Thank you guppies!:)

I don't know if it's the eyes, the color or the shape of the body, but they seem sympathetic compared to other crab species.

The essential thing is they feel good, aesthetics is secondary.

My first group (3 couples) was wild caught.

any acclimation problems? die offs?

kobal
20th Jun 2012, 12:30 AM
None. They remained hidden for six months... I knew they were still alive as the food disappeared every day...

Warlock
20th Jun 2012, 12:44 AM
it seems wild caught is my only option.. i will have to just go that way..

wish me luck!! LOL

i will post my updates

In France it's the same thing: you can only find wild caught specimens, very few people breed these little crabs with success.

Fingers crossed for your future vampire!

I can't tell you, they were adults when I got them. And now the first babies reach this size.
