Hi

I am new to shrimp keeping and would like to know if I keep the following shrimp together will they inter breed? I have yellow, red and white, black and white, red and transparent and slight blue and transparent. What can I keep together that won't inter breed?

Sounds like red and blue rili which will interbreed with the yellow also the CRS AND CBS will also breed

I don't want to call it wrong, but picture by picture with no others...

Pic 1: CBS (Crystal Black Shrimp) lower grade
Pic 2: Several shrimps here. Red and white ones are CRS (Crystal Red Shrimp) lower grade
The light red one on the left side of the plant is an RCS (Red Cherry Shrimp)
The bright yellow ones look offhand like Neon Yellow Neos (RCS Color morph)
There appear to be a few Blue Jelly Neos there as well (RCS Color morph)
The Orange/Clear ones I haven't the faintest. Never seen anything like those, off color Red Rili or possible Pumpkin Oranges? (Neo)
There is a Red Rili hanging out on the center plant facing down.
Pic 3: Most of what I already described in the last pic.
Pic 4: Either PFR (Painted Fire Red) or high grade Sakura. Both are high grade versions of the RCS.

I could understand if you are getting some brown shrimp. You have a lot of color morphs that will breed with each other and revert back to their natural wild colorations.

Thanks for your help. I am wanting to separate them so trying to figure out which ones can go together to eliminate interbreeding of colors . Any help appreciated.

Well, I am a basing the Crystal Black Shrimp identification with the commonality of always available varieties. It may be Mischling Shrimp but I have little experience with those up close. The CBS and CRS can be put in the same tank along with one Neocaridina like those very nice red shrimp you have. The CBS and CRS can breed together, but you will get CBS and CRS back in random amounts of either red or black. If you put any two Neo species together you will eventually breed out the color and they will turn wild color in the end.

If you go to Planet Inverts website they have a species interbreeding chart that will weed out your dilemma. Be sure to click the link to bring up the complete chart, as the little chart on the page is only a sample.

Edited because I had a brain fart with the Rili's:x

I see you are New to shrimp keeping but have a lot of different species that require different water parameters. Are these ALL in the same tank? Did you buy this setup with the shrimp together?

You might need to start by either deciding which shrimp you like best and sticking mainly to that variety or be prepared to have separate tanks or tanks with dividers.
Of the cherry species you have the blue jelly would be the most exotic IMHO. Followed by rillis and yellows.
Cherry shrimp and CRS/CBS can be kept together and won't cross breed but they have different Requirements so you will be compromising one or the other to keep them together. That being said many people do keep them together but if your just starting out with shrimp I'd suggest starting off with easier species is best to avoid disappointment. Do you know how many of each type you have?

After looking at the coloration much closer in the organs I would recant to say they are what we call Blue Pearl Shrimp in the U.S.. After going through piles of images of Blue Jelly they have more of a slightly darker blue organ hue, and these have a yellowish organ color.

My apologies:D

Fox is completely correct about water parameters as well. Someone in the group is living out of their comfort zone depending on where your readings fall.

Thanks everyone. I started off with a very few of each colour and they are breeding like mad. Yes they are all in the same tank excepting for the very red ones. My ph is sitting at about 6.8 and they seem to be molting etc very well. I have had babies of all the different colors and in the pictures you see , most of them are grown up babies. The main tank has been running for about four months now. I started of with about 10 blue color, 5 red and white, three black and white, ten cherry shrimp, 6 yellow and about 5 red and transparent. I have babies of everything excepting the red and white, and black and white but they have only been in the tank about three weeks.
